Matías Altbach is a professional photographer and entrepreneur from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After leaving his 9-to-5 job as a business administrator in a company he decided to pursue his two prime passions: music and photography. Combining both just came naturally to him, and he began shooting gigs at clubs, venues, parties and every event he could find. In no time he was recognized in the music and night scene in Buenos Aires, and started to work as official photographer for some of the most iconic parties and live shows of the Latin American cultural mecca.

Always present and active in the cultural scene in Argentina, Matías started his own projects and took part in several cooperative initiatives: from specialized magazines to a joint coverage of festivals in the South American capitals (Rio de Janeiro, Oruro, Buenos Aires, Montevideo), from being curator for the Photographic Museum of Humanity to taking part in the Financial Comitee for the FECA (Self-managed Culture Festival), Matias has never stoped moving, creating, networking and sharing.

The summit of his efforts has come also in the form of a new found passion: the passion of teaching. With over 16 seminars completed, he teaches Music Photography and Entrepreneurship for anyone who is willing to sit through long sessions of picture viewing, tip sharings, and the occasional wine drinking.

After years of applying himself to various projects, in 2014 he was awarded the Best Music Photographer prize by NME in the Professional category. Taking impulse from this sign he decided to take a big step: move to Europe for the festival season and cover the best and craziest stages and crowds. Since May 2015 he’s been travelling and shooting at Primavera Sound (Barcelona), BST Hyde Park and Wireless (London), Roskilde (Denmark), T in the Park (Scotland), Latitude (England), Sziget (Budapest), and Leeds (England). He also worked as part of the official staff photographers team at Lollapalooza Berlin 2015, the first edition of this festival in the city.

Since his trip to the Old Continent his pictures have been published in BBC News, The Guardian, Billboard, Daily Star, Irish Daily Star, London Metro Newspaper, NME, MOJO, and many Argentinian media as well.

Thoughout his career Matias has shot more than 300 gigs in Argentina and abroad, and been Photography Editor in several magazines and online specialized media. He is currently the Photography Editor at Indie Hoy.

He is a passionate entrepreneur, commited cultural manager and fierce photographer.
